ARCIGAY SALENTO
Arcigay is a social promotion association whose goal is to promote and protect the rights of the LGBTQIA+ community. It also raises awareness and provides information and training on issues concerning the sexual, social, and psychological well-being of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, asexual, and other minorities who differ in their sexual identity. We carry out testing for HIV and other sexually transmitted infections through our health group (trained in counseling and administering HIV and syphilis tests), which organizes information and awareness events on sexual health.
In particular, our activities are distributed throughout the Salento area through events held at our headquarters, in medical centers, in squares, on beaches, and in private clubs.
Our sexual health educators (called peer educators) have been trained through the HEALTHY PEERS project, which has the overall objective of promoting a culture of sexual health and well-being by increasing individuals' awareness of themselves, their sexual health, their needs, and prevention tools.
The HEALTHY PEERS project aims to strengthen the capacity for responsible self-determination, reducing the risks to sexual health arising from sexually transmitted infections (STIs), behavioral and substance use/abuse/addiction (e.g., chemsex), stigma, and minority stress.
We are accredited with Cobatest Network and participate in ICAR conferences.
