HIV cannot be defeated with drugs alone, and it will be even less likely to be defeated with a vaccine, just as hepatitis A and B have not been defeated. It may be defeated, perhaps, by fighting it jointly on a scientific and social level.
Today, the second of these has decidedly less important space and HIV is not decreasing as we would expect given the successes of research.
This is the challenge that Plus has decided to take up through its constitution. It was created with the aim of ensuring that HIV-positive LGBT people have the opportunity to be protected both as LGBT people and as HIV-positive people, in a context where scientific training and information is promoted and carried out in an equal climate, by professionals, operators and volunteers who share the same social and experiential background as the users.
